Prince Poppycock Strikes Jesus Christ Pose In Mentor Kristian Hoffman's Bizarre Video
Most Americans don't know who John Quale is, but they're familiar with John's powdered-wigged alter ego, Prince Poppycock, the flamboyant fopera singer who seriously pushed the envelope on the family-friendly reality show "America's Got Talent." (He pushed it all the way to the finale, in fact.) But John is pushing thing even farther in a new role, as he plays Jesus Christ in a bizarre video by his collaborator and mentor, Kristian Hoffman.
John is currently working on a debut Poppycock album with Kristian, an underground legend who's collaborated with Rufus Wainwright, Russell Mael of Sparks, Congo Norvell, Van Dyke Parks, Maria McKee, Lydia Lunch, and even Klaus Nomi. Kristian also just released an album, intriguingly titled FOP, from which this odd new video, "Hey Little Jesus, Get Out of That Hole," is culled.
While the video may offend or at least confuse some viewers (John's bloody stigmata hands are a far cry from his usual white-gloved look, and the guacamole and puppet scenes are just plain weird), fans of Poppycock's/Quale's OTT artistry will probably find this video worthy of worship. And Kristian certainly dabbles in the same baroque 'n' roll that the good Prince's followers, aka the Poppies, will find pleasing to the ear.
So see Prince Poppycock as you've never seen him before, below. Prepare for a religious experience!
